Donald Trump's Regime of Consequences and Incentives

The ex-president's voracious desire for retribution has swiftly morphed into a methodical apparatus. During the past year, the leader's fury and whims have assumed the guise of administrative measures similar to analogous to past repressive governments. Justice department officials who fail to comply are summarily removed and succeeded by loyalists. Critical figures who question him encounter indictment, court proceedings and penalties. Opponents have been categorized under executive memoranda as “anti-American”, “anti-Christian” and “opposing economic freedom”, and threatened with legal action as “terrorists”.

The Justice System Remade

Every situation involving legal action of political opponents and immunity for supporters exhibits its own unique features. However, notwithstanding their specific nature, they exemplify expressions of what has developed as a calculated approach. Such events are anything but coincidental. Trump's removal of DoJ attorneys and law enforcement personnel, alongside his installation of devotees in key roles, commenced rapidly, promptly assumed a regularity, and has now been formed into a regime. The justice department and the law enforcement agency have been transformed into ideological bodies under Trump's direct command to implement his wishes. Injustice has been made normal. This is the apparatus of revenge.

Leadership is focused with penalizing the chief's supposed opponents than they are with safeguarding our national security.

Inside the System

The foundation of this mechanism has been revealed in the court filing of multiple ex- senior Federal Bureau officials filed in late summer in the US district court in Washington against FBI director an administration figure and justice department head another official for wrongful dismissal in “a initiative of revenge against the officials for what the accused deemed to be a failure to show sufficient devotion”. According to the filing that Brian Driscoll, the previous interim leader, describes a discussion in which he “freely acknowledged the unlawfulness of his actions”.

Driscoll had sought to shield law enforcement officers from being terminated, the filing alleges. He told him that “administration officials” – interpreted by him to be the executive branch and justice department – had instructed him to dismiss everyone who they identified as having participated in a legal probe against him. The document adds: “He stated that he had to terminate the personnel his superiors told him to dismiss, because his ability to keep his own role depended on the dismissal of the personnel who handled matters involving the President. Patel commented that there was no way he or him could do to halt these or any other dismissals, because ‘the FBI sought to incarcerate the leader in jail and he remembers.’” Once Driscoll informed him he was violating the agency's own internal rules, he allegedly said “he knew that and he realized the character of the summary firings were likely unlawful”.

Broad Consequences

After Patel's claimed admission to the official, the DoJ and the law enforcement agency have been gutted and repurposed for the administration's revenge apparatus. Six of the FBI's senior executives were terminated or pushed out in the initial period of the presidency. About numerous lawyers at the department have taken a “voluntary departure plan”. At least seven federal prosecutors, among them those in the Manhattan division, resigned in protest over what they considered as political interference in abandoning the criminal prosecution against the local official, the mayor, in as a trade for his cooperation with Trump's Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrests of foreign nationals. The anti-corruption unit of the justice department, which manages ethical violations, has been diminished to two attorneys. The rights protection unit has been devastated: the majority of its employees has departed. 33% of executives at DoJ have resigned. The unit enforcing conservation statutes has seen departures of half its management.

Incentives and Punishments

Regarding the mayor's situation, the acting US attorney for the NY office, the official, resigned in protest against what she characterized as the “trade-off”. A key figure, Trump's “border czar,” showed up as the enforcer with Adams on a media outlet to declare: “Should he fail to deliver, I'll be back in NYC.”. Additionally, another figure, earlier the senior DoJ official and a ex-lawyer, who arranged the arrangement, was given an court role, a potential stepping stone to the judicial branch.

The president's protection for offenses carried out while in office, awarded by the unprecedented judgment of the Republican majority on the highest court, thus preventing his criminal case over the January 6 insurrection and safeguarding his electoral prospects for the 2024 election, is the foundation stone on which he stands to protect his stalwarts. With such immunity, he has been freed to authorize misconduct. The impact of the court judgment infuses his presidency and the GOP down to its bones. The legal case has spread. As a past leader's administration lawyer he said about the Watergate
